Halloweentown

If you like to watch Halloween movies, try this classic from 1998.

It stars Debbie Reynolds & Kimberly J Brown. “When a young girl living with her secret witch mother learns she too is a witch, she must help her witch grandmother save Halloweentown from evil forces.

Fun Facts:

St. Helens, Oregon, is where the original “Halloweentown” was filmed, and they welcome tourists. In fact, they have a month-long Spirit of Halloweentown event to celebrate the October holiday and allow fans of the movie to explore the town. They even try to recreate parts of the set, like the giant jack-o-lantern in the town square.

During filming of the first three ‘Halloweentown’ films, Debbie Reynolds often introduced herself as “Princess Leia’s mother” to the young actors (as she’s the real-life mother of actress Carrie Fisher, who famously played Leia in the ‘Star Wars’ films).

Halloweentown was filmed in the small towns of Scappoose and St. Helens Oregon. The pumpkin in the Halloweentown square was gifted to the city of St. Helens and is displayed every Halloween in the town square during the Spirit of Halloweentown celebration.

According to Kimberly J. Brown, the flaming hairdryer Marnie accidentally picks up is real with real flames, and no special effects were involved.

Debbie Reynolds descends from the bus carrying her from Halloweentown by floating down to the sidewalk with an umbrella, not unlike Mary Poppins. Reynolds was considered for the role before Julie Andrews was cast.
